Biography

Dr. Steven Johnson Jr., (he/him/his) serves as the interim director for the Student Involvement and Leadership Center. In this role, he is the primary leader in the coordination and assessment of university-wide student organization engagement, leadership development, and non-traditional & off-campus student services. Johnson maintains an eagerness to collaborate with campus partners and a passion for interacting with students, families, student organization advisors, and other community constituents to create a vibrant learning community. He earned his bachelor’s degree in industrial and manufacturing systems engineering from Iowa State University, his master’s degree in student affairs administration from Michigan State University, and his doctor of education in higher education administration from the University of Kansas. His research interests center student employment, identity development, student involvement and engagement, help-seeking strategies, and long-term professional engagement.
